Jubilant ties up with Dunkin’ Donuts to set up coffee outlets in India
25 Feb 2011
Jubilant FoodWorks Ltd yesterday unveiled an alliance that would pave the way to set up Dunkin' Donuts coffee and baked-goods retail outlets in India.
The company would be the exclusive franchisee in India for Dunkin' Donuts, a unit of US-based Dunkin' Brands Inc.
The deal comes at a time when foreign food brands are looking at opportunities to set up a presence in India, to profit from the growing popularity of eating out and spending more on beverages and processed food among India's middle class.
Last month, Starbucks Corp struck an alliance with India's Tata Coffee Ltd, to source and roast coffee beans, in a move designed to pave the way for the popular US chain to open outlets in Asia's third-largest economy.
At a media conference Jubilant FoodWorks' chief executive Ajay Kaul, said, the plan was to open 25-30 Dunkin' Donuts outlets in the next three years.
Dunkin' Brands chief executive Nigel Travis, India presented a tremendous growth opportunity for Dunkin' Donuts and the first outlets would roll out from early 2012.
