Kraft Foods recalls Polly-OString Cheese, String Cheese Twists over discoloration
26 Oct 2013
Kraft Foods Group is recalling some varieties of Kraft and Polly-OString Cheese and String Cheese Twists products due to product discoloration.
The Illinois-based company said that around 735,000 cases of the affected product were shipped to across the US, but none were distributed in Canada.
'' These products may spoil before their ''Best When Used By'' code dates, leading to product discoloration,'' Kraft Foods said in a statement.
The affected products all have code dates from 25 October 2013 through 11 February 2014.
Consumers can find the ''Best When Used By'' date on the back of multi-count packages toward the bottom. For string cheese products labeled for individual sale, the ''Best When Used By'' date is on the bottom front of the package.
Kraft is conducting this recall after receiving several reports from consumers of premature spoilage of some of the string cheese products.
''As you may know, these are natural cheeses that contain no added preservatives, and it's not unusual for cheese to spoil over time. But in this situation, we saw spoilage occurring before the ''Best When Used By'' Date.
That is not acceptable to us. So we knew the right thing to do for our consumers was to voluntarily recall the affected product, Kraft said in the statement.
Kraft has ceased the production and distribution of the affected products from its facility in Campbell, New York as the company continues its investigation to resolve the problem.
No other Kraft or Polly-O String Cheese or String Cheese Twists products -- or any other Kraft Foods or Polly-O products -- are being recalled.
It said that consumers who purchased these products should not eat it and return it to the store where purchased for an exchange or full refund.
