EmCare Inc, a provider of emergency medical services in the US, yesterday announced that it has acquired the management services company of Acute Surgical Care Specialists, to expand its services to acute care surgery.
Based in Plano, Texas, Acute Surgical contracts with hospitals to provide trauma and general surgery physician call coverage. It provides clinicians to seven hospitals in Texas and Florida, and also contracts with several hospitals to provide orthopedic surgery call coverage.
Upon completion of the transaction, Acute Surgical became a part of EmCare's newly formed surgery services division. The company will operate under the Acute Surgical brand, and its leadership team will continue to manage operations, said EmCare in a statement.
"We are excited about expanding services to include acute care surgery, which is a natural complement to the broad range of integrated physician services EmCare provides to more than 500 hospitals across the country. The addition of acute care surgery in conjunction with our other service offerings provides a unique ability for hospitals to increase efficiency and improve patient care," Todd Zimmerman, president of EmCare, said.
"Hospitals looking to improve patient flow, better integrate services, and utilize resources more effectively are recognizing the value that Acute Surgical can provide. The partnership with EmCare, a recognized leader in integrated physician services management, will allow us to enhance the services we provide to hospitals," John Josephs, founder and president of Acute Surgical, said.
Dallas, Texas-based EmCare is a leading provider of physician services. EmCare-affiliated clinicians provide emergency medicine, hospital medicine, radiology and anesthesiology services at more than 500 hospitals in 41 states in the US.
Both companies did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.
