United Parcel Service (UPS), the world's largest package delivery and logistics company, said yesterday that it would cut 1,800 management and administrative jobs in the US in a restructuring aimed at streamlining its domestic management structure.

The Georgia-based UPS delivers more than 15 million packages a day to 6.1 million customers in more than 200 countries globally.

It said the restructuring would reduce its US Regions from five to three and its US Districts from 46 to 20 from April.

UPS, which has approximately 340,000 employees in the US of a global workforce strength of 408,000, will eliminate approximately 1,800 management and administrative positions across the US in its small package operation.

About 1,100 employees will be offered a voluntary separation package, while the rest will receive severance benefits and access to support programs based on length of service.

The small-package segment, which handles 150 pounds of ground and air shipments, represents approximately 60 per cent of the company's annual revenue.
