BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, is due to announce new investments into its channels BBC Entertainment and CBeebies, in a bid to expand its foothold in India as part of its global expansion strategy.

BBC will make the announcement at reception it is holding for UK government-led trade delegates to India today.

The event will be attended by Prime Minister David Cameron, Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne, and secretary of state for culture, the Olympics, media and sport Jeremy Hunt.

BBC Worldwide's has targeted two-thirds of its sales from overseas businesses by 2012 and India is seen as a key market to help it reach the target.

Over the past year, 55 per cent of the organisation's revenue came from international businesses compared to 46 per cent in 2006.

Darren Childs, managing director channels, BBC Worldwide, said, ''India is a country which we believe is a great fit for our channels with a large English speaking population, good BBC brand recognition and a strong affinity with the UK.
