India Today Group lays focus on regional languages, forms new arm

To address the opportunities in Indian language publishing, the India Today Group announced the formation of a special business unit to manage related extensions in regional languages.

All India Today language brands will fall under this new entity, which will be led by Prabhu Chawla, who has been appointed editor (languages) and CEO of the arm.
Chawla will also work as the consulting editor to Business Today.

The India Today - English and international editions will be led by MJ Akbar, who has been roped as the editorial director by the Group. He will have the additional responsibility as editorial director of Headlines Today, the English news channel.

In their new roles, effective today, Chawla will report to board of directors while Akbar will report to Aroon Purie, chairperson and editor-in-chief, India Today Group.

Speaking about the new entity, Purie opined that the formation of the SBU is to capitalise on the language space, which is where the future growth in media lies.
