The Huffington Post is to launch in the UK this summer as in a bid to expand internationally, following its acquisition by AOL last month
According to Arianna Huffington yesterday was "day one" of the UK news site's development but after initial discussions with the London-based team on Wednesday morning "we decided to accelerate the launch".
AOL agreed to an acquisition of The Huffington Post last month in a deal worth $315 million (£194 million).
Ms Huffington was appointed to lead the Huffington Post Media Group, which is engaged in integrating the site with the existing brands produced by AOL.
Huffington along with AOL chairman and chief executive Tim Armstrong was in the UK this week to meet the international AOL team led by Kate Burns.
Armstrong said the company was planning to expand its high-quality content brands internationally, especially in the UK. He added that from an internet perspective the UK was a top three market in the world the company was going to focus on.
