Coal production up nearly 10 per cent at 184.4 million tonnes in H1 2009-10

Coal production in the country recorded a growth of 16.64 million tonnes (or 9.9 per cent) at 184.4 million tonnes in the first half of the current financial year (April-September 2009-10) compared with the production of 167.8 million tonnes during the same period of the previous fiscal (April-September 2008-09).
Coal India Ltd (CIL) and its coal producing subsidiaries of NCL, SECL, BCCL, ECL and WCL have not only achieved the target but have also exceeded the targeted growth rate set for the first half.
Coal India subsidiaries include Eastern Coalfields Ltd, Bharat Coking Coal Co Ltd, Central Coalfields Ltd, Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd, Northern Coalfields Ltd, Western Coalfields Ltd, South Eastern Coalfields Ltd, Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Ltd and Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd. (NLC).
NCL has achieved production of 30.54 million tonnes as against target of 29.89 million tonnes. It also achieved an absolute growth of 2.54 million tonnes, thus achieving growth rate of 9.1 per cent over the same period last year.
Similarly, SECL has achieved production of 48.43 million tonnes against targeted production of 47.47 million tonnes. It also achieved an absolute growth of 2.06 million tonnes over last year, thus achieving 4.4 per cent growth rate over the same period last year.
BCCL has achieved coal production of 11.99 million tonnes against a target of 11.86 million tonnes. Production in absolute terms grew 1.80 million tonnes (or 17.6 per cent) over the same period last year.
ECL has achieved production of 12.42 million as against a target of 12.09 million tonnes. It also achieved an absolute growth of 0.99 million tonnes, thus achieving an 8.6 per cent growth over the same period last year.
