Retailers Association of India initiates PG course in retail management
21 Dec 2007
Bangalore: To address the gap between the demand for quality manpower and its supply in the retail industry, the Retailers Association of India has partnered with 15 business schools to initiate a post-graduate programme in retail management (PGPRM).
According to Gibson Vedamani, CEO, Retailers Association of India, the availability of suitable talent to aid growth of the retail sector in India has been a challenge for the organised players.
It is estimated that over 2.2 million people would be employed by the retail industry over the next three years.
To enrol students for the programme across the 15 business schools, the Retail Association of India will conduct a Common Admission Retail Test (CART) on 27 January, across 25 cities.
CART would test quantitative analysis, logical reasoning, data interpretation and business and consumer awareness, which according to Vedamani is a subject necessary for the retail sector.
The PGPRM is designed as an 18-month programme, of which 12-months involve classroom learning, followed by a six-month internship.
