YSR backers trash Ambani outlets after ‘conspiracy’ reports
09 Jan 2010
Outlets and installations of both the rival Reliance groups across Andhra Pradesh were attacked on Thursday night after a couple Telugu language channels went to town with an old and vague report in a Russian online tabloid alleging that the Ambani brothers were behind the death of former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
The report apparently appeared in Russian online bi-weekly tabloid exiledonline.com, though journalists reported that it was inaccessible.
Quoting the report, the channels - particularly TV5 - went ahead with debates and panel discussions on whether there was more than meets the eye behind the helicopter crash on 2 September last year which killed 'YSR' and some of his senior colleagues.
This was enough to send his supporters and some Congress leaders on the rampage. According to reports, Reliance Fresh, Reliance Mart and other showrooms were damaged in Hyderabad, Kadapa, Tirupati, Rajahmundry, Khammam, Karimnagar and Anantapur.
Buses were damaged in Rajahmundry, three buses were burnt in Nandyal, students at Sri Krishnadevaraya University damaged a couple of buses in Anantapur.
Reliance petrol pumps were damaged at Palamner in Chittoor district, while Reliance cellphone towers were damaged in Guntur, Anantapur, Krishna, Nellore, Prakasam, Nalgonda, Adilabad, Nizamabad and Chittoor districts.
