CWG: Let the games begin! CAG report may rock Parliament soon
21 Feb 2011
The report of the Comptroller & Auditor General on the mismanaged and scam-ridden New Delhi Commonwealth Games is likely to be tabled during the second leg of the budget session of Parliament.
"Auditors are still in the process of finalising the CWG report and most likely it would be ready for tabling in April," says a PTI report quoting sources.
The budget session begins today. The first part will end on 16 March, while the second part will be from 4-21 April.
The CAG had in November last year said that it was conducting a broad-based audit of the 'overlays' or peripheral infrastructure for the games, and a report would be ready by January.
The two-week long Commonwealth Games, held in New Delhi from 3-14 October last year, cost Rs70,000 crore. The organising committee (OC) of the games is in the thick of allegations of corruption, ranging from favouritism in the award of various contracts to expensive hire of training equipment and inflating costs of building contracts.
The CAG is vetting the expenditures incurred on different CWG related projects. During the course of the audit the CAG had send audit memos to the Organising Committee seeking their response on the findings, the report added.
