SC set to hear PIL for cancelling remaining IPL fixtures

The Supreme Court will today hear a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking a stay on all remaining Indian Premier League cricket matches following the spot-fixing scandal.
A bench of Justices B S Chauhan and Deepak Misra had on Tuesday agreed to give an urgent hearing to the PIL seeking stay on all remaining matches of IPL in view of the spot-fixing scandal, and posted the matter for 2 pm today.
The petition by Lucknow resident Sudarsh Awasthi has also sought the setting up of a Supreme Court-monitored special investigation team (SIT) to look into the issues of match-fixing and other alleged irregularities in the IPL.
The PIL has has made all IPL franchisees and the Board for Control of Cricket in India party to the case along with the union government.
''There are many irregularities in the IPL, beginning from the auction of players. Black money and money from anti-social elements are involved in the IPL, which needs to be probed,'' the petition said.
It sought a stay on the remaining four matches in this year's IPL, including the final scheduled for Sunday, till the probe is completed.
