Welspun India is 'supplier of the year' for JC Penny

Mumbai: JC Penny, a leading US retailer, has awarded Welspun India the 'supplier of the year award for quality' in home products at a summit held in Plano, Texas.
Welspun is a leading home products manufacturer, providing the west with some of the most luxurious terry towels and bed linen that retail there. It is part of the $3-billion Welspun group, which is one of the largest exporter of home textiles in Asia, and is amongst the third largest terry towel player globally. Welspun has facilities located in India, Mexico, Portugal.
The Rs300-crore Welspun had earlier won the sustainability award in 2007, from Wal-Mart.
JC Penny is an $18.8 billion retailer in the US, operating 1,067 stores in 49 American states, and has the largest general merchandise catalogue business in the US.
Welspun, which serves reputed clients including J C Penny and other Fortune 100 Companies such as Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Wal Mart, Target, amongst others, had earlier won the best vendor award from JC Penny in 2003.
''This award gives a boost to the quality control mechanisms and the various processes we undertake in our facilities," said said Rajesh Mandawewala, joint managing director of Welspun. "We make sure that our consumers get nothing but the best possible product available.''
