Aban’s rig sinks off Venezuela coast.

Semi-submersible ship Aban Pearl, owned by one of the subsidiaries of Aban offshore, which was engaged in contract at offshore Venezuela, sank off the coast of northeastern Venezuela on 13 May 2010, said Aban Offshore Ltd in a filing with BSE today.
The ship was leased to Venezuela's National Oil Company by subsidiaries of Aban offshore, having a tie up with Singapore-based Petromarine Energy Services Ltd.
The rig was manned with 95 personnel who were evacuated safely.
The company said the cause of the mishap is unknown at this stage.
There was no gas leak or threat to the environment, the government said Venezuelan energy officials.
This incident follows the explosion aboard the Deepwater Horizon semi-submersible oil rig owned by BP in the Gulf of Mexic, leaving 11 dead last month.
