Ambuja Cements Ltd plans to invest Rs2,000 crore for capacity expansion in Rajasthan and northern regions as part of its efforts to increase production and take advantage of the government's infrastructure focus.
The proposed Rajasthan project would add five million tonnes capacity to the company's total production, Ajay Kapur, chief executive officer of Ambuja Cements, said today.
He was announcing the company's expansion plans at its 1.5 million tonne plant at Sankrail in Howrah district.
''We are adding new capacities. We are actively pursuing the 5 million tonne capacity expansion in Rajasthan and neighbouring northern regions with an investment of Rs2,000 crore,'' Kapur said.
He did not give any timeframe for the project.
According to Kapur, the company currently has 10 per cent of the Indian cement market. ''We would like to sustain the same for the next five years,'' he said.
Kapur further said that the company would add 0.9 million tonnes capacity to the existing plant at Sankrail over the next two years.
