Angry Birds maker Rovio today said that it had acquired Futuremark Games Studio, the gaming arm of Finnish benchmarking software firm Futuremark, for an undisclosed sum.

Founded in 1997, Espoo, Finland-based Futuremark makes state of the art 3D graphics games for PC, cell phone, automotive and other embedded devices.

It is known for its space-games Unstoppable Gorg and Shattered Horizon and skill shot puzzle game Hungribles.

The acquisition comes less that a year after Rovio, also based in Espoo, purchased Kombo Animation Studio and a week after it launched its latest Angry Birds Space game.

Three Helsinki University of Technology students, Niklas Hed, Jarno Väkeväinen and Kim Dikert founded mobile game development studio named Relude in 2003 after winning a mobile game development competition sponsored by Nokia and Hewlett Packard.

In January 2005, the company changed its name to Rovio Mobile and once again changed it to Rovio Entertainment Ltd in 2011.
