ASEAN proposes energy grids, gas pipelines with partners

ASEAN is keen on developing closer links with India in the overall development of energy sector, Combodian Prime Minister Hun Sen told India's minister of state for petroleum and natural gas R P N Singh on the sidelines of an energy conference in Pnom Penh, Cambodia today.
Earlier, addressing a gathering on 'ASEAN Green Connectivity' at the 30th ASEAN Energy Ministers Meeting,
Hun Sen especially mentioned about India's assistance in building power transmission lines in Cambodia.
Hun Sen thanked India for its assistance in improving the power sector in Cambodia and indicated that ASEAN needed wider cooperation with its partener countries to secure its energy future.
The thrust of the meeting was on integrating ASEAN energy markets with its developmental partners through establishment of energy grids by laying high power transmission and gas pipelines.
Singh also met the energy ministers of Malaysia, Russia, Brunei, Singapore and Japan on the sidelines of the meeting.
Besides India, the meeting is attended by 10 ASEAN countries as well as ministers from China, Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand.
Singh is in Cambodia to attend the 30th ASEAN Energy Ministers Meeting and the 3rd EAS Energy Ministers Meeting.
