BGR Energy Systems to set up 1320 MW power plant in Orissa

Power equipment supplier BGR Energy Systems today said it plans to set up a 1,320-MW power project for the Orissa government at an investment of Rs6,287 crore.
In a regulatory filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange, the company said it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Orissa government for setting up a 1,320 MW independent power producer at Bhapur in Nayagarh district of the state at an investment of about Rs6,287 crore.
BGR Energy Systems chairman and managing director B G Raghupathy said the company was confident the project would spur all round integrated development in the Nayagarh region.
The MoU was signed by Raghupathy for the company and Orissa's energy secretary P K Jena.
A special purpose vehicle will be set up for the implementation of the project, the company said in the filing.
Under the MoU, the state government would assist the project with acquisition of land, supply of water, and mandatory clearances. It would also facilitate allotment of captive coal blocks.
