Mumbai: Scientists at a technology company said on 25 November that they have created human embryos through cloning, drawing criticism and raising new ethical questions, CNN has reported.

Advanced Cell Technology Inc of Worcester, Massachusetts, said the experiment was aimed not at creating a human being but at mining the embryo for stem cells used to treat disease.

Although the breakthrough could lead to advances in fighting a variety of ailments, including Parkinson's disease and diabetes, the news still drew immediate criticism from some lawmakers and US President George W Bush.
