British Columbia’s largest wind farm starts generating energy

Plutonic Power Corporation yesterday said that its Dokie Wind Project, British Columbia's largest wind farm, has begun generating electricity.

Located 1,100 kilometres northeast of Vancouver, the Dokie Project will deliver 340,000 megawatt-hours per year of clean electricity to Canada's third-largest power utility, BC Hydro, from 1 March 2011, when the project is commissioned, under a 25-year procurement agreement.

Dokie will sell the energy generated during commissioning prior to the commercial operation date, to Powerex, a subsidiary of BC Hydro.

The project includes 48 Vestas V90 wind turbines, a switchyard and transmission lines at a total project cost of $228 million.

Dokie Wind is jointly owned by Plutonic Power and GE Energy Financial Services, through through their joint Dokie General Partnership, and is being built by Mortenson Canada Corporation.

Plutonic and GE Financial are also working on a larger 715,000 MWH/a wind power project at Cananda's Toba Montrose and for which they have already firme up a 35-year supply deal wit BCHydro.
