BSNL, MTNL expanding distribution channels

State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) are expanding distribution channels by improving the system and through franchisees and retailers against stiff competition.
The entry of new operators with aggressive tariff plans have caused a fall in the market shares of both BSNL and MTNL, minister of state for communications and information technology Gurudas Kamat informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply today.
To strengthen the financial health of BSNL and MTNL, the minister said, the two telecom firms have been augmenting capacity to enhance the network coverage and to remove the congestion.
The two have also been expanding distribution channels and improving system of follow-up of franchisees and retailers, he said.
Besides developing a system of providing special premium service level agreements (SLAs) for large enterprise customers and focusing on corporate accounts, the state-run telecom firms have constantly been improving customer care through better feedback and after sales service, the minister said.
The introduction infrastructure sharing, as also improving management information system will help the two companies mop up additional revenue, he added.
