BSNL to introduce 3G services in Sikkim by I-Day

Public sector telecom services provider BSNL will launch 3G service in Gangtok on Independence Day, this year.
Announcing this in Gangtok yesterday, minister of state for communications and IT Sachin Pilot said all the 26 blocks in Sikkim would be covered by broadband services within 100 days.
BSNL is currently working on improving broadband speed to to 30Gbps that would benefit users.
Pilot also said traffic congestion in mobile services in 21 sectors of the state would also be removed by 15th August, 2009 due to improved service quality from BSNL.
Pilot said that special measures has been taken to improve the quality of services in the north east parts fo the country through communication and information technology, with special focus on Sikkim.
He said that though the state's terrain was difficult, the communications mnistry would support efforts to improve information and technology in Sikkim, raising employment opportunities.
