Carlyle to buy wireless voice and data services firm Syniverse for $2.6 billion
29 Oct 2010
In a second such deal in two days, the world's second-largest private-equity firm Carlyle Group disclosed that it was acquiring voice and data services provider Syniverse Holdings Inc for $2.6 billion.
The buyout comes a day after Communications cable maker CommScope Inc agreed to go private through a $3.9-billion buyout offer from the world's second largest private equity firm Carlyle Group. (See: CommScope agrees to Carlyle's $3.9-billion buyout offer)
It is also Carlyle's second proposed acquisition in two days of a company in the telecommunication industry.
Tampa, Florida-based Syniverse is an enabler of wireless voice and data services for telecommunications companies worldwide. Founded in 1987, the company provides a full portfolio of mobile roaming, messaging and network solutions to more than 800 mobile operators, cable and Internet providers, and enterprises in over 160 countries.
Its integrated suite of services include technology interoperability services, which enable the invoicing and settlement of domestic and international wireless roaming telephone calls and wireless data events.
Syniverse also offers number portability services that are used by wireless operators to enable wireless subscribers to switch service providers while keeping the same telephone number.
