CBI confirms genuineness of Singh-Chandra tele-conversation: reports
20 Feb 2013
The CBI has confirmed that a recorded phone conversation between CBI prosecutor AK Singh and Unitech managing director Sanjay Chandra was genuine, CNN-IBN reports.
The confirmation comes after the CBI took voice samples from both individuals and sent them for forensic testing to ascertain the genuineness of the tape, which carries a conversation between the two discussing ways to allegedly weaken the 2G case.
Singh told Chandra in the tape that the key witness of the CBI and former DoT officer, AK Srivastava, who had cleared all the applications for 2G licenses, would compromise his testimony.
PTI had earlier quoted CBI sources as saying that they believed the tape had been recorded by some person who was present with Singh and Chandra when they were allegedly discussing the strategy in the case.
Singh who was not the main prosecutor in the 2G case, has since been dismissed and the agency has also constituted a special team of officials who would make an assessment of damage, if any, to the prosecution in the spectrum allocation case.
The probe, would cover all aspects including corporate rivalry, they said.
