CBI raids office of NGO linked to DMK's Kanimozhi
15 Dec 2010
The CBI on Wednesday extended the 2G spectrum scam probe deeper into DMK territory even as over 150 officers joined concerted searches across Delhi and Tamil Nadu today.
CBI officers today searched the office of Tamil Maiyam, a Tamil Nadu-based NGO linked to Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi's daughter and MP Kanimozhi, as it conducted statewide raids in connection with the 2G mobile spectrum scam.
Kanimozhi is on the board of directors of Tamil Maiyam, an NGO outfit founded by Father Jegath Gasper Raj, who is said to be close to both the DMK camp and Sri Lankan Tamils.
Father Gasper has also been the main intermediary between the ousted Sri Lankan terror outfit LTTE and the Tamil Nadu government during the 2009 war in Sri Lanka.
Tamil Maiyam, however, claims to be a non-profit organisation that organises an annual cultural event called Chennai Sangamam and works for 'promoting Tamil art, literature and culture.'
CBI also raided Raja's residence at his native Velur village at Perambalur as also the homes of his brother Kaliya Perumal and sister in Trichy. They also searched residences and offices of Raja's close aides in Chennai, Tiruchirappalli and Perambalur districts, including that of his auditor Subramanyam.
