CBI wants Kanimozhi in jail; court puts off decision
07 May 2011
The suspense over the possible arrest of Kanimozhi, daughter of Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK supremo M Karunanidhi, in relation to the 2G spectrum allocation scam will continue for another week, as the special CBI court hearing her bail appeal has reserved its decision till 14 May.
The Central Bureau of Investigation today strongly pleaded for Kanimozhi's remand in judicial custody, saying she is ''controlling everything'' in Kalaignar TV, which it accuses of laundering illicit money from the sale of 2G licences at throwaway rates in 2008.
The investigation agency alleges that Kalaignar TV got Rs200 crore illegally from the Dynamix Balwa Group.
The CBI prosecutor U U Lalit said Kanimozhi, a member of Parliament, was the "active brain" associated with A Raja, the former telecom minister who is the chief accused in the scam.
"It is totally false that she was not at all aware of the transfer of Rs 200 crore to Kalaignar TV, because she was a director at that time. Kanimozhi is the active brain behind the entire episode of the 2G spectrum scam," Lalit told special CBI judge O P Saini.
"It was later that she resigned from Kalignar TV, as she became an MP. Sharad Kumar took over at that time," Lalit said.
