Centre mulls revival of defunct FCI and HFC fertiliser units

The Andhra Pradesh government has asked for early revival of the Ramagundam unit of Fertilizer Corporation of India Limited (FCIL), and in the context of the state's request, the centre has decided to explore the feasibility of the revival of several defunct fertiliser units besides the said unit, including those of Hindustan Fertilizer Corporation Limited (HFCL) and other Fertilizer Corporation of India Limited (FCIL) units, subject to assured availability of natural gas.
Meanwhile, an Empowered Committee of Secretaries (ECOS), which has been constituted by the government to evaluate all options for revival of the defunct units of FCIL / HFCL has already considered various possible investment options and has finalised its recommendations regarding the suitable financing option.
The recommendations made by the ECOS are under consideration of the government.
The information was given by the minister of state for chemicals & fertilisers, Shri Srikant Kumar Jena, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
The centre is planning to revive eight units of units of FCIL and HFCL.
Meanwhile, according to Jena, National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) is in the process of implementing projects for energy saving and capacity augmentation at Vijaipur its Vijaipur unit.
