Chinese cellphones – surprisingly cheap for the features offered – have long been floating around on the grey market. Now ForMe Mobiles, China's leading brand, has become the first to officially enter the Indian market.
A regular ForMe phone would be available for less than Rs1,000, and a 3G handset for under Rs4,000.
''This is the first branded Chinese company to launch mobile phones in India. It is launched to protect our customers as well as image of Chinese mobile phones,'' said Jiang Delong, founder of ForMe.
''Most of the time you go to a mobile phone vendor, you don't get a warranty or service agency for the phone. Now this requirement will be fulfilled with the launch of ForMe handsets,'' he added.
ForMe hasa entered the Indian market through 'Peace Telecom', a marketing and trading company based in Hong Kong.
''Currently, we will be launching five new dual Sim models with all the latest features at the most economical prices,'' said Abdul Gaffar, director, Peace Telecom India. He said the phones will have a one year warranty and will adhere to strict quality standards.
