Coal grabbers tipped off before raids: Kajriwal
06 Sep 2012
Social activist Arvind Kejriwal, associated with Anna Hazare in his anti-corruption movement, has sought to raise further controversy by claiming that companies which were raided earlier this week for getting coal fields allegedly by misreporting facts, were secretly warned that Central Bureau of Investigation officials would soon be arriving at the homes and offices of executives.
"Just recd mail from an officer in one of raided cos. They were informed 2 days in advance abt raids and were asked to remove all material," Kejriwal tweeted.
The CBI has issued an official statement calling Kejriwal's allegations false and baseless.
On 4 September, the CBI carried out raids at 30 locations across the country and filed cases against five companies for alleged criminal conspiracy to get coal blocks by fudging their net worth figures and misrepresenting of facts.
Congress MP Vijay Darda was named in one of the four first information reports (FIRs) filed by the CBI in the case.
Darda's brother Rajendra, who is the education minister in the Maharashtra government, has also been named in one of the FIRs (See: CBI registers case in coalgate against Congress MP and minister brother).
Five companies - JLD Yavatmal Energy Ltd, in which Darda was a directors, JAS Infrastructure Capital Pvt Ltd, AMR Iron and Steel, Navbharat Power Pvt Ltd and Vini Iron and Steel Udyog Ltd - along with their 20 directors and some government officials, have been named in the FIRs.
Both Vijay and Rajendra Darda have denied that they used their political clout to help their firm land coal blocks.
