Commercial LPG cylinder price increased by Rs266 from 1 November

State-run oil marketing companies have increased the price of commercial LPG cylinders by Rs266 per cylinder with effect from 1 November, giving another blow to harassed consumers who already bear the brunt of high fuel prices.
After this latest price hike, commercial LPG cylinders (19 kg) now cost Rs2,000.50 in Delhi, Rs1,950 in Mumbai, Rs2,073.50 in Kolkata and Rs2,133 in Chennai.
However, domestic consumers have been spared of the price hike this time around.
Non-subsidised domestic LPG cylinder (14.2 kg) in Delhi now sells at Rs899.50 per unit, while it costs Rs926 in Kolkata and Rs915.50 in Chennai.
The government policy provides for the supply of 12 cylinders of 14.2-kg each per household at subsidised or below-market rates. Any quantity over this had to be bought at market price or non-subsidised rates.
Earlier, last month the petroleum companies have hiked the price of commercial Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders by ?43.50 and in the month of September the price of the commercial LPG cylinder was increased by ?75.
Prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders across all categories, including subsidised gas, were hiked by Rs15 per cylinder last month. This was the fourth straight increase in prices in less than two months. Subsidised and non-subsidised LPG rates were hiked by Rs25 per cylinder on 1 October.
The increase in subsidised LPG price now has taken the cumulative rate hike since January 1 to ?205 per cylinder.
Considering the pace at which crude oil prices are rising, it is likely that domestic LPG cylinder prices will cross Rs1,000 per cylinder. The prices of domestic LPG cylinders in Delhi were Rs694 per cylinder in January, which has now gone up to Rs 899.50 after the eighth consecutive increase.
