Delhi Development Authority plans housing for poor in the capital
30 Jun 2009
With rising demand for housing, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has come out with a plan to provide 65,000 flats to the lower and middle income sections over the next four years.
While the first batch of 8,000 flats will be ready by mid-201, the tendering process will begin this year in October or November. The flats will be alloted by a lottery.
The plan envisages giving 40,000 flats to the economically weaker sections.
''To meet the acute housing shortage, the DDA is embarking on the construction of 40,000 dwellings,'' said union urban development minister Jaipal Reddy. ''The tender documents are ready and the construction will be fast, with the adoption of pre-fabricated technology.''
The flats, built in the areas around Dwarka, Rohini and Narela, may cost between Rs10-15 lakh.
Another 10,000 flats will be constructed for the middle income group. These may cost around Rs30 lakh and located around Vasant Kunj.
