DoT asks S Tel to stop mobile services in 3 circles

The Department of Telecom (DoT) has ordered S Tel Limited to stop voice and data services in three circles owing to security concerns, CNBC-TV18 reported today.
The order covers Bihar, Orissa, and Himachal Pradesh circles and is.
S Tel, a joint venture between the Chennai-based Siva Group and Bahrain Telecom (Batelco), has a unified access services licence and spectrum to operate in six states - Bihar, Orissa, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, the Northeast and Assam.
The Bihar circle includes Jharkhand.
Commenting on the same, P Swaminathan, president, Siva Group, said the company has received the letter on stopping service from DoT a few hours back, reported the news channel.
"We are very surprised by this order as we had received DoT's permission to start services on 11 and 21 of December 2009, and are trying to ascertain the reason for this action," Swaminathan said.
According to him, the order mentions national security as the ground for action.
