DP World reports 14 per cent increase in container traffic at 50 million TEU in 2010

Global marine terminal operator DP World has reported a 14 per cent increase in the volume handled at 49.6 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) across its portfolio of 50 operating terminals in 28 countries in 2010.
Against this, D P World had reported a 10 per cent increase in volume handled in the previous year.
Volume at D P World's consolidated terminals grew 9 per cent to 27.8 million in 2010, including 7.3 million TEU handled in the fourth quarter, which was up 12 per cent from the same quarter of the previous year.
Volume growth at consolidated terminals was up 9 per cent in the fourth quarter 2010.
In the UAE, DP World handled 11.6 million TEU in 2010, up 4 per cent from the 2009 with the fourth quarter delivering growth of 7 per cent handling over 3 million TEU.
The performance of the region reached peak levels in the second half of 2010, reaching levels previously seen in 2008, with 6.1 million TEU handled in the 6 month period. While non-container volumes in the UAE showed improvement in second half of the year, for the whole year it remained slightly lower.
