LG, Samsung to showcase next-gen TVs at CES
02 Jan 2018
With the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) set to open in a few days, a number of the biggest names in tech are set to showcase some products that would likely define 2018. Much like the CES in the past, companies like LG and Samsung will also display next-gen TVs. It is now known that LG will display a showstopper 88-inch OLED television with an 8K display.
This would be the largest and highest-resolution OLED TV in the market, according to Engadget.
It would be some time before 8K televisions become mainstream.
Currently 4K TVs and HDR content is slowly becoming mainstream. According to commentators, LG's 8K TV will be a show of strength at CES 2018 as the company takes on rivals like Samsung and Panasonic, among others.
As of now, the details of the 8K TV are not fully known and better knowledge about its specifications will have to wait till CES 2018.
Currently the largest OLED screen measures 77-inches which is offered in 4K resolution with LG, Sony and Panasonic offering the size. Samsung meanwhile shifted from OLED to QLED panels last year, making LG Display the only large-sized OLED display maker in the game. Last year Samsung unveiled three QLED TVs - the Q9, Q8 and Q7 at CES 2017. According to the company, its QLED TVs are better than OLED TVs. One can expect to see a few new QLED TVs from Samsung at this year's CES as well.
CES would kick off in Las Vegas, Nevada on 9 January and will close on 12 January. Media briefings will be held on 7 January and 8 January.
Besides Google, Lenovo, LG, Samsung, Sony, who will hold events/press conferences, other major manufacturers that will hold a press conference at the event are:
- Huawei –9 January at 14:00 PT
- Intel – 8 January at 18:30 PT
- Nvidia –7 January 7 at 20:00 PT
