Few takers for TAPI pipeline

There seem to be few takers for building the $9 billion 'peace pipeline' across Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India (TAPI).
According to sources, cited by NDTV international firms had put a condition that Turkmenistan should allow international firms to have a stake in exploration projects in the country.
The country currently gives only service contracts for upstream (exploration and production) projects.
TAPI countries have also held roadshows in US, UK and Singapore to attract investment, build and operate the 1,680-km pipeline.
The pipeline would start from Turkmenistan's Galkynysh or South Yolotan field, run through Afghanistan's Herat and Kandahar province to Multan in Pakistan via Quetta, ending finally in India at Fazilka, Punjab.
Turkmenistan's Galkynysh field would provide the 90 MSCM per day of gas that would be carried and distributed between India, Pakistan and Afghanistan, of which Afghanistan would buy 14 MMSMCD with Indian and Pakistan getting 38 MMSCMD of gas.
