Fire at IPCL Nagothane kills 4, injures over 30

Mumbai: At least four workers were killed and over 30 wounded in an explosion triggered by a fire inside the Reliance Industries petrochemicals facility at Nagothane in Raigad district of Maharashtra.
The fire that broke out on Friday morning, in one of the units undergoing scheduled maintenance at IPCL's Nagothane complex, has been brought under control soon.
The company has confirmed four casualties and said those injured are being treated at the complex' hospital. Normal operations have already begun at the Nagothane Petrochem complex, the company said.
The fire broke out in the one of the two linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) plants of the company, which has a capacity of 60,000 tonnes per annum. The plant was shut down on 5 June for routine maintenance when the incident took place.
The other LLDPE plant with 1,00,000 tpa capcacity is fully operational. "Customer supplies will not be affected," said RIL in a statement.
"A thorough investigation has been ordered and is underway to establish the exact cause of the incident. The rest of the Nagothane complex is continuing with normal operations," it added.
