Gamesa India, the local arm of Spanish wind energy major Gamesa, has overtaken Suzlon to emerge the top wind turbine supplier in India, selling 1,003 MW of turbines in the 2015-16 financial year, also scripting a new record in capacity addition.

Gamesa India's turbine sales also crossed the 1 GW-mark for the first time, after the company sold 657 MW capacity in the previous year.

The company sold wind turbines of a total capacity of 1,003 MW in the year, against traditional market leader Suzlon's annual sales of 900 MW in 2015-16.

Suzlon also more than doubled its sales to 900 MW. But the fastest growth was recorded by Inox Wind, whose sales increased to 790 MW, from 272 MW in 2014-15.

Gamesa India also emerged the largest contributor to Gamesa's global sales, accounting for 29 per cent of its total sales of 3,883 MW. Gamesa's global order intake roose 17 per cent, with India accounting for a major share.

Gamesa India's Chairman and Managing Director, Ramesh Kymal, attributed the company's success to "favourable business climate" in India.
