Gemini Communications orders for rural broadband access worth Rs200 crore

Chennai-based wireless broadband access technology provider Midas Communication Technologies Pvt Ltd has outsourced the implementation of a Rs260 crore enhanced digital wireless access system (1EDWAS) project for BSNL in Tamii Nadu, Karnataka and Haryana to business communications consulting firm Gemini Communication Ltd.
This tender envisages supply, installation and commissioning of 134 base station controllers (BSCs) and 1,340 base station sites in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Haryana for providing voice and broadband data services.
The project will be executed in phases with the first phase of the order valued at Rs50 crore to be undertaken in Tamil Nadu. According to the MoU entered the pioneering technology developed by Midas has to be implemented and deployed by Gemini within 150 days.
Midas had bid for BSNL's EDWAS (broadband corDECT) tender for planning, design, supply, installation and commissioning of broadband internet access based on DECT technology.
As part of the tender Midas has an obligation for the installation and commissioning on a turnkey basis, for which it has partnered with Gemini Communications.
