Once again, the much-awaited auction of the third generation mobile phone services (3G spectrum) has been postponed... this time to the next fiscal, the government said today.

Indian telecom operators, desperate for the enhanced 3G services may have to wait longer than they expected, thanks to continued dithering by the government.

The auction is xpected to yield Rs35,000 crore as revenue to the government.

Although the department of telecommunications (DoT) has not given any reason for the delay, officials have said that the auction is likely to be held in August-September this year.

The auction, which was supposed to be held in the middle of this month, was postponed to February-March this year (See: 3G spectrum auction likely to be deferred to March: report).

DoT had said on 8 December that the government was in the process of finalising the details to be included in the notice inviting applications (NIA) which are being fine tuned and the NIA will therefore be issued shortly.
