GSFC to expand engineering plastics capacity at its Nylon-6 project

Gujarat State Fertilisers and Chemicals Ltd (GSFC) will soon embark on a programme to enhance the existing capacity of its Nylon-6 engineering plastics project to better meet the requirements of engineering and film grade plastics.

GSFC, a complex fertilisers and industrial products manufacturing company, proposes to create additional capacity of 15,000 tonnes per year at its Fertilisernagar unit, Vadodara, Gujarat.

The expansion programme is estimated to cost around Rs125 crore, the company said in a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

GSFC will use technology from Lurgi GmbH of Germany. Lurgi will provide technology, know-how, basic design and also supply proprietary items and technical advisory services to GSFC. Lurgi, a world leader in technology, has provided technology for a number of similar projects globally,

GSFC and Lurgi signed the technology agreement at GSFC's corporate office at Fertilizernagar, Vadodara, Gujarat on 11 November.

Herbert Kaiser, director contract management, Lurgi-Germany and H P Pandya, advisor (P & CP), GSFC, exchanged the agreement for expansion of Nylon-6 project at the signing ceremony.
   
Besides the Nylon-^project, GSFC operates the Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers Company Limited, a joint sector company, with GSFC and Gujarat government, holding 26 per cent and 25 per cent of the share capital, respectively. GNFC is the largest fuel-based ammonia plant and was the first largest single stream urea plant in the world when commissioned.

GSFC has promoted Gujarat Industries Power Company Ltd (GIPCL), which is the one of the leaders in power sector by performance.
   
GSFC also operates Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited (GAPC), Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation (GAIC) and Gujarat Green Revolution Company Limited (GRCL).

GAPC is jointly promoted by GSFC, GAIC and GNFC was in existence since 1999. The company undertakes banana tissue culture and maintains a farm at Dakor. The company is currently known as Gujarat Green Revolution Company Limited (GGRC).
   
Gujarat Investment and Leasing Company Limited (GILC) has now been merged with GSFC.
   
Polymer Corporation of India Ltd. Is now GSFC-Polymer unit. The company was established in 1973 and subsequently was amalgamated with GSFC in 1985. The unit is located in Vadodara. Technical know-how is provided by Mitsubishi Rayon Company, Japan.
   
Gujarat Nylons Limited is now GSFC-Fibre Unit.
