New Delhi: Telecom operators based on the Global System for Mobile (GSM) added 9.3 million subscribers last month in August as per data released by the Cellular Operators' Association of India (COAI), the industry body that monitors GSM telecom operators.
This figure is lower by 6 per cent against 9.9 million new subscribers added in the previous month.
With the latest data the total number of GSM users in the country now stands at 335.4 million and India continues to be the fastest-growing mobile market in the world.
The six per cent fall in monthly additions was mainly due to state owned BSNL and MTNL recording a large fall in netting new subscribers.
BSNL added 1.3 million new subscribers in August, which was lower by 16 per cent from growth in the previous month, while MTNL recorded a huge fall of about 43 per cent in monthly additions.
BSNL has a subscriber base of 52 million while MTNL has 4.3 million users.
