HC reserves order on Kanimozhi's bail plea; sends Morani to jail
30 May 2011
The Delhi High Court today reserved an order on the bail plea of 2G scam-accused DMK MP Kanimozhi and Kalaignar TV MD Sharad Kumar even as it rejected the petition of facilitator of the Rs200-crore transaction Cineyug Films director Karim Morani.
Kanimozhi was arrested on 20 May after the court dismissed her bail plea. Kanimozhi had earlier challenged the CBI court's order directing that she be sent to judicial custody.
The special CBI court rejected Kanimozhi's bail citing the complexity of the 2G scam and the amount of funds involved.
CBI has named Kanimozhi as a co-conspirator in the case, having received kickbacks to the tune of Rs214 crore for conspiring with former telecom minister A Raja.
Earlier in the day, Morani, an accused in the 2G spectrum case, was arrested and taken into judicial custody after the Delhi High Court rejected his bail plea.
Special CBI Judge O P Saini refused the bail plea of Morani who is charged with facilitating the transfer of Rs200 crore from DB Realty to Kalaignar TV, in which DMK MP Kanimozhi holds 20 per cent stake.
