Hoteliers' withdrawal project hits accommodation plans for Commonwealth games

About 20 hoteliers have withdrawn from the Commonwealth Games hotel poject adding to the government's problems and severely hitting the government's efforts towards  providing accommodation to guests at the upcoming mega sporting event. 

In its bid to provide 40,000 rooms during the 2010 Games, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) had auctioned 33 hotel plots in the capital. 

According to a senior official of the tourism ministry who spoke to PTI, 20 of the hoteliers that had bagged the project had not even completed 30 per cent of the ground work and have considered opting out of it.

The official, by way of example, cited the case of Amar Hospitality which was to construct a 512 room hotels in Shahadara, work on which is progressing at snail's pace with there being not much activity on the ground. The official said that for the department they had opted out of the Games project. 

Also Asrani Inns was yet to make any progress on the construction of 375-bedded hotels at Wazirpur. The 219-room hotel at Rohini by Breaze Constructions was also behind schedule he said. 

Work by Anush, which had been allotted land in Shahadara for the construction of a 136-bedded hotel rooms is slow with not even 30 per cent of the work being completed as per the status report.
