HTC India has launched a new touchscreen smartphone running Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system – the HD Mini, which looks like a kid brother to the previously announced Windows Mobile based phone HTC HD2.

The new HTC HD Mini is the same handset that was exhibited at the Mobile World Congress 2010 in February. According to analysts the HD Mini is another shrunken 'Mini' handset like the X10 Mini from Sony Ericsson and the N97 Mini from Nokia.

The new handset has a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen HVGA display featuring 320x480 pixel resolution. It runs the Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional system and has HTC Sense user interface layered on the top of the mobile OS.

HTC Sense UI offers seamless integration with social networking services. Equipped with a 600 MHz processor, the HD Mini smartphone has 512MB ROM and 384MB RAM and is capable of holding up to 32GB microSD 2.0 memory card.

The HD Mini is a quad-band GSM phone that would also support 3G networks and for internet browsing, the phone comes pre-loaded with Opera Mobile browser. It also offers Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g for mobile internet connectivity. The handset stands four inches tall, and has Bluetooth 2.1 and GPS chip along with HTC Footprints application for location based services as well as applications.

For shutterbugs the smartphone comes with a 5 megapixel autofocus camera that allows widescreen photo capture while music buffs would certainly like to slip on their favorite pair of headphones and connect to the 3.5mm audio jack. The 1200mAh battery gives up to 7.25 hours of talk time, with 12 hours of music playback eight hours of video play back for up to 8 hours.

The HTC HD Mini would be offered in India for Rs23.490 (excluding taxes)
