HTC launches Butterfly 5-inch smartphone for Rs45,990

HTC has launched its 5-inch screen smartphone Butterfly Rs45,990 in India, running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) but it also has HTC's Sense 4+ software overlay. The phone comes with the following salient features.

  • 5-inch Super LCD screen with 1920×1080 pixel screen resolution and a Corning Gorilla Glass 2 with screen display of 441 pixels per inch.
  • 1.5GHz Qualcomm S4 Pro quad-core processor.
  • The device comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, expandable by up to 32GB via microSD card.
  • The device features an 8 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front camera.
  • The Butterfly has a non-removable 2,020mAh battery and supports LTE, 3G, High Speed Packet Access (HSPA)+ for connectivity.
  • It also supports Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC.

Faisal Siddiqui, country head, HTC India said, the device offered the best experience in terms of performance, design and innovation, and was the company's most eagerly anticipated smartphone having received rave reviews from media and consumers alike.

He added, the Butterfly was quite simply the most stunning smartphone HTC had created to date, with a display that people would fall in love with instantly.

The smartphone would take on other 5-inch phones in its category like Samsung Galaxy Note II, LG's Optimus VU to name a few.

According to experts while device runs on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system (with HTC Sense 4+), the display was the striking part of the device. According to the company it was the first smartphone to feature a true 1080p full HD display, which would deliver superior sharpness, white balance, and colour accuracy for everything seen on it. 

Powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, its  2GB of RAM allows seamless use of multiple apps simultaneously. The 16 GB internal memory of the device is expandable up to 32 GB with a microSD card, and additionally to 25GB of free Dropbox cloud storage from HTC.

Its 8 MP (f/2.0) autofocus rear camera with LED Flash and backside illuminated sensor (BSI) allows recording of full HD videos (1080p) at 30 frames per second while its 2.1 MP front-facing camera can also record full HD videos.

Additional features of the camera allow choosing between photos and video, 'HTC VideoPic' allows capture of video and still images at the same time, and simply holding the shutter button, 'Continuous Shooting' clicks multiple photos at up to four frames per second.
