India, fastest growing wireless market; 7.3 mn added in June

The monthly mobile subscriber rate registered the highest ever wireless user addition of 7.34 million in June, despite service providers continuing suffering from an acute scarcity of spectrum.

With the addition of new mobile users the total numbers of subscribers has increased to 225.21 million, up from 218.05 million in May.

The overall tele-density has risen to 19.86 per cent, up from 19.26 per cent in May.

In the wireless segment, 7.34 million subscribers have been added in June, while 6.57 million subscribers were added in May registering an increase of 11.72 per cent. The total wireless subscribers (GSM, CDMA & WLL (F)) base is 185.13 million at the end of June.

The wired line subscriber base stood at 40.09 million at the end of June, compared to 40.26 million at the end of May, a marginal decrease.

The gross addition in telephone subscribers during first quarter of 2007-08 is 19.35 million as compared to 13.10 million during corresponding quarter of 2006-07 registering a growth of 47.75 per cent.

Total broadband connections in the country reached 2.52 million in June, compared to 2.46 million in May, a growth of 2.44 per cent.
