India re-elected to the executive council of the UN World Tourism Organisation

India has been re-elected to the executive council of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation for another four year term at the 18th session of the general assembly of UNWTO, which is being held in Astana from 5 to 8 October.

The executive council is the governing body of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, which is responsible for ensuring that the organisation carries out the work and adheres to its budget.

It meets twice a year and is composed of 31 member elected by the general assembly in a ratio of one for every five full members.

India is a member of the executive council of UNWTO continuously for the last 19 years, during this period, India has been elected to the chairmanship of the executive council twice.

The Indian delegation to the 18th session of the general assembly is being led by  Sanjay Kothari, additional secretary, tourism.
