India's tele-density reaches 60.99 with 723.28 million subscribers in September 2010

The number of telephone subscribers in India increased to 723.28 million as of 30 September 2010, up 2.39 per cent from 706.37 million in August 2010. With this, the overall tele-density in India touched 60.99, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said in a release.
The number of wireless subscribers increased to 687.71 million at the end of September 2010 from 670.60 million in August 2010, recording a growth of 2.55 per cent.
Wireless tele-density rose to 57.99 per 100 population.
Wireline subscriber base, on the other hand, declined to 35.57 million at the end of September 2010 from 35.77 million in August 2010.
State-run BSNL and MTNL hold 83.48 per cent of the wireline market in the country. Overall wireline teledensity is 3 per 100 population.
Total broadband subscriber base in the country increased by 2.08 per cent to 10.29 million in September 2010 from 10.08 million in August 2010, thereby showing a growth of 2.08 per cent.
