India sets up task force to combat film, video, cable and music piracy

The ministry of information and broadcasting of the government of India has set up a task force to recommend measures to combat film, video, cable and video piracy.

The task force, headed by special secretary in the I&B ministry, has eminent film producer Yash Chopra, Film & Television Producers' Guild of India president Manmohan Shetty, former president of the Film Federation of India G Adisheshagiri Rao, Indian Broadcasting Federation president Jawahar Goel and Association of Radio Operators of India member Prashant Pandey as members.

The task force will hold consultations with state governments as well as stakeholders before finalising their recommendations, a government release said.

The task force is scheduled to submit its report within a period of six months, ie, before 18 June 2010.

The task force has been set up on the recommendations of the state information ministers' conference held in New Delhi early this month.
