India and Singapore today signed a joint action plan for promotion of tourism under which the two countries will strengthen joint marketing collaboration in third countries, such as member countries of ASEAN and China.

The two countries will also promote reciprocal visits of media representatives, travel agents and tourism operators, with the aim of creating awareness about tourist attractions in each other's countries.

Under the agreement signed between tourism secretary Sujit Banerjee and Lawrence Leong Yue Kheong of the Singapore Tourism Board, the two countries will consider organising a Singapore and India week at the sidelines of tourism fairs, wherever possible.

The two countries will also promote and encourage human resource development in tourism and travel related industries by collaborating through exchange programmes for faculties, students and by exchanging information on teaching modules and curriculum.

The joint action plan reiterates the provisions of cooperation enshrined in the bilateral agreement on tourism signed between India and Singapore on 24 January 1994.
